Types of people at the gym

I’ve been going to the gym once a week since February. And so far, I’ve only missed one week, so I’m pretty proud of myself. But that’s not what today’s blog post is about. Although I go in the morning, there are usually already a lot of people there and sometimes, they can provide quite a lot of entertainment. Which I’m sure, I do a lot of the time as well. But my gym-fails are a topic for another time. So here are some things I observed in the past weeks.

To the guy who has been working on his leg-strength for the past 30 minutes (with a sh*t-load of weight): If you can still walk tomorrow, I’m thoroughly impressed. Because right now, it looks like you are having some troubles. Which usually means a lot of trouble on the next day. Also, you can’t undo a year of skipped leg-days in just one morning. Have fun getting out of bed tomorrow. Or sitting down. Or standing back up again. Or just doing any kind of movement, really.

To the guy whose shoulders and biceps almost burst his t-shirt: Take an example in previously mentioned leg-guy. Not by trying to do it all in one gym session but by remembering that you have, in fact, legs that would like some attention. Maybe I’m not in the loop with the latest fitness trends. Maybe being super mega muscular in the upper region and having legs like tiny twigs (I’m not even kidding) is what guys aspire to these days. What do I know about fitness? Also, you spend half of the time on your phone. Guess what you could be doing in those precious minutes?

To the girls who are very obviously working on their summer-butts (there have already been two, I’m expecting to see more in the following week as summer approaches): I know your moves, you probably got them from one of the thousands of workout videos that are meant to target your backside. I’ve been there. Just don’t be like guy 1 and 2. There’s a whole body you have there.

To the girls doing CrossFit: I’m impressed that you know all these different moves with all kind of equipment. Also that you don’t get intimidated by all the tough guys lifting weighs. I’d be so lost. So well done you! Who knows, maybe one day I will have a friend who is an expert in the fitness area and I can get some info from there. Until then, I’ll stay over here by the machines I know how to use and admire what you do from a distance. Even if it’s pushing some block through the room.

That’s it for now. I should probably start going to gym when it’s busier, I’m sure there would be even more things to write about.

Love,
Anna

  1. There’s a “Cross Fit Girl” (at least that’s all I can think she’s doing) that has started popping up when I’m at they gym. I agree with you: I have no idea what she’s doing, or what she hopes to accomplish… but she goes at it with unabashed enthusiasm.

I get a kick out of those bros that skip leg day: http://tinyurl.com/zgzp6gq

Hopefully this won’t be considered impolite, but I wrote my own “gym people observations” recently too:
